Arleen Richards

Duly Re-Elected on June 18th, 2022 – Present Day

My name is Arleen Vallery Richards. I am a Social Worker and retired from the Department of Children and Family Services. I have worked at three nursing homes since I retired from the state. I live outside of Colfax, LA.

I am the daughter of Clyde L. and Lessie Mobley Vallery. My dad was the oldest of 4 sons. I’m the oldest of 4 children. My grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Vallery Jr and he was the oldest of 8 children and he married Mildred Watkins Vallery. My great grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Vallery Sr. and he was married to Ella Carter Vallery. I have two sons, Shane and Kaleb Ezell. I hope through my example of tribal involvement that it leads them to continue our family’s journey with the tribe after I’m gone. Solomon Vallery was my 4th great grandfather is the common ancestor everyone shares today.

My dad was very interested in the Apalachee heritage and after speaking to Chief Gilmer Bennett in the 90s, he wanted to see where his ancestors led him. Unfortunately, my father passed away in August 2000. Before he passed away, he wanted me to follow through to see how we were related. I have served our tribe and continue to follow wherever this path leads us. I am following through on the promise I made him.
